Great day out with the entertaining and informative Brett. We visited and travelled on both the Skyrail and the Scenic Railway and had a couple of hours to explore the markets, cafes and shops of Kuranda. A quick stop for a cocktail at the Surf Club at Palm Cove on the way home topped off the day nicely. Highly recommended.
A full day adventure. This tour is suitable for all ages. Got picked up in Port Douglas by Brett and he took us to the Rex Look Out and then on to Skyrail. Skyrail was soooooooooo quiet which was great for me as I got a gondola on my own and the weather was perfect. This is really quite a lengthy cable car ride so it is well worth the cost and the views are spectacular. On the way up to Kuranda you get to stop off at 2 look out points which you really should do (I noticed some people did not really venture). At Kuranda, Brett met us with his van and drove us in to Kuranda town (you can walk it as it is only a 5 min walk). I love Kuranda but I have to say, cos of Covid, it was a real shock to see it practically empty. Lots of closed shops and even the pub I went to for lunch was not serving food after 1pm !!! I chose to have lunch thereafter, at the German eatery in the inside market. I am so glad I went as the food was lovely and for $16 I got the meal and an ice cold (really cold) beer. After here, I went to the Koala park as I had never been before. I was in my element playing with the kangaroos who were not really too impressed with me. I also caught a yellow pytho on film, yawning!!! Well, I think it was yawning. Brett came to pick us up at 3pm. By now Kuranda was a ghost town. I swear, I half expected tumble weed to roll down the streets. I have never seen Kuranda like this before :( Now was time to jump on the scenic train and travel down the valley to Freshwater Station. Lovely old carriages and a very long journey with some great scenery. This is well worth the trip and all ages can enjoy it. Brett met us again at Freshwater Station and from there we passed the 2 local favourite landmarks (Bunnings and Dan Murphys) and he took us to the Surf Club in Palm Cove where we all sat together and had a drink. To be honest, the day had been fantastic but this last bit was not quite right. It was great to go for a drink but there are soooo many lovely venues to go to in Palm Cove, the Surf Club is not one of them...maybe time to source a new venue??? Overall, it was a fab day and I highly recommend it to everyone. Oh, and I did this trip on my lonesome but never felt lonely.
We had a fabulous day, travelling the Kuranda Railway and the Scenic Skyway, our host was Dale who entertained and looked after us on the journey from Port Douglas to Kuranda and back, Dale provided us with some great history of the area and also some great stories, it was a really enjoyable day out and highly recommend the trip.
An excellent day, Dale was knowledgeable about the local area and kept a running commentary throughout the trip. The railway was scenic with a fun couple of hours in Kuranda. The skyrail is definitely worth the experience with scenic stops on the way down.
